Sen. Morse of Indiana Oregon halted a 22 hour 26 minute filibuster at 10:06 AM EST, setting a new Senate record. He spoke to oppose the tidelands oil bill, fueled by soup and candy bars, as VP Nixon and others watched.

Reds To Return "Bonus Group Of 84 POWs

PANMUNJOM Korea The Communists release a bonus group of 84 sick and wounded UN prisoners as armistice talks resume. Seventeen Americans and 83 others freed today with 13 Americans and 71 South Koreans to be freed Sunday bringing UN prisoners freed to 684 and Americans to 149. The exchange aims to end the Korean War and tests whether further repatriations will continue beyond this batch.

Bridge North Of Wellington Opens After Six Week Closure

Route 58 bridge north of Wellington to Route 20 reopened yesterday morning. The Black River bridge repair closed six weeks, with Route 18 detoured onto 58 to 20 for the Hell's Gap section near Wellington to Brighton. Work on Route 18 continues to late fall, diverting westbound traffic via 58 and 20.

Tedrick Appointed Associate Lorain County Agricultural Agent

William Tedrick Vocational agriculture teacher at Wellington High School has been named the Lorain County associate agricultural agent. Referred by Charles Haas, he will assume duties mid June and focus on 4-H work and livestock programs. He helped establish Wellington’s vocational program and plans to expand farm training if a proposed bond issue passes. Tedrick is married with a five month old daughter and is a Guernsey County native.

Everything On Curb Lawn To Be Taken

Elyria Street Department warns during clean-up week that anything left on the curb will be removed by trucks. Safety Director Dan W. Kothe notes repeated trouble with gardening tools left near rubbish containers and says items must be clearly left for disposal or be taken to the landfill on Garden Street. He urges using only old unwanted containers for waste.

Three Hour Chinese Assault Halted by U S Troops

U S Third Division troops repelled a three hour Chinese attack near Jackson Heights about 1,009 yards from Ironhorse Mountain. Roughly 75 enemy soldiers killed. Far East Air Force reports 8115 sorties in the week ending Friday, a Korean record. Sabrejets claimed several enemy aircraft destroyed or damaged, while B-26 bombers struck Red supply routes. The battleship New Jersey conducted a major eight hour bombardment of Songjin on the East coast.

Bank Bandit Dead and Officer Wounded in St Louis Bank Heist

A St Louis bank robbery ended with one gunman dead, two other bandits wounded, and a police officer critically injured. The dead robber was Frank Vito Jr. of Chicago. the two wounded bandits were John W. Frederick and William Scholl, also from Chicago. A fourth suspect, "Joe," remains at large. Fatal stockyard mis identification triggers confusion

A Cleveland dispatch misidentified William Pickard of Elyria as the victim in a stockyards accident. The actual deceased was James Gabriel, about 60, who had been staying at the Hebebrand farm on LaGrange Road. Gabriel died when his hayload struck an overhanging light fixture.
