Elyria Post No. 12 of the American Legion will burn its mortgage Friday at 1:45 p.m. National Commander Harry W. Colmery will present the final payment to A. B. Taylor as the mortgage is burned in front of the Court House. The event includes a public ceremony, open house, and attendance by state officials, with a parade escort and no longer a legion drum and bugle parade.

Walter C. Waldeck Dies in Cleveland Former Elyria Leader
Walter C. Waldeck, a prominent Elyria figure in the late 1800s, died yesterday in Cleveland. Funeral services set for 9 am Thursday at St. Philomena's Church East Cleveland, with the body at Flynn-Froelk Funeral Home. Waldeck ran Swearer and Waldeck furniture here 1870 to 1900 and later moved to Cleveland to focus on manufacturing. He lived on East 4th Street and belonged to St. Mary's church. survived by son Frank J. five sisters one brother and two Elyria cousins.

Car Goes Into Ditch Injuring Three Men in New York Route 20 Crash
Deputy Sheriff Chalmer Davidson said a car driven by Joseph Bellino of Middletown New York left Route 20 about four miles west of Elyria at 6 P M and crashed into a ditch. Three men, Domenica Bellino 33 Frank Romato 42 and Joseph Bellino 32 were treated for minor injuries at Elyria Memorial Hospital. Bellino claimed they were traveling about 70 miles an hour to avoid an approaching car.
