MacArthur hints at plan to end Korea war with threat to China

General Douglas MacArthur outlined a secret strategy to end the Korea conflict by threatening to bomb Communist China. In a letter to Senator Harry Byrd, he argued such action could force the Soviets to bring the Korean war to a conclusion with less bloodshed. The remarks echo his December statements and suggest the U S could target red China’s industrial base to undermine its war effort. The plan would depend on Russia weighing its own atomic and industrial strength relative to the United States, and Byrd released the letter amid testimony on ammunition shortages.
