Firefighters Won’t Push Elyria Ambulance Levy
Elyria firefighters will not launch a petition to place an 0.8 mill ambulance service levy on the November ballot. IAFF Local 474 president Joseph Gaughan told the safety committee the department could run an ambulance service but will not seek voter approval without committee support. The committee tabled the proposal after discussions with Fire Chief Donald Norman and again after Gaughan spoke, noting the levy would fund two ambulances, radios, and nine staff, with about 354,466 dollars annually. Gaughan expects a county-wide 0.25 mill paramedic levy on the ballot in November, similar to a prior rejected plan.
