Area man's death probed near Grafton

The fatal shooting of Robert Kuehn, 54, of AD 1 Grafton, was being investigated by Lorain County sheriff's deputies. Kuehn died at Elyria Memorial Hospital around noon from a back wound. Deputies responded to 13480 Indian Hollow Rd. Two men were taken to the sheriff's office for questioning. Further details were not immediately available.

Nordson pilots paid layoff workers for charity tasks

Nordson Corp of Amherst launches a program where four task force teams of three workers and a leader keep pay and benefits while aiding Lorain County charities. Paycheck tax slash targets workers and employers alike

EDMOND LEBRETON reports a new tax change imposing 572.40 dollars withheld from anyone earning 10 600 dollars or more in 1972, with a matching amount from employers. The plan also raises Social Security benefits, offers a future cost of living adjustment, expands Medicare to the disabled, and gives pensioners more earnings leeway.

Haiti's government radio reported Francois Papa Doc Duvalier died after a three month illness. He was 64 and his 20 year old son Jean-Claude Duvalier would succeed him. New cabinet posts included Luckner Cambronne interior minister, Adrian Raymond foreign minister, Edouard Francesque finance secretary. The army’s Claude Raymond brother was named to head the Haitian army, signaling military backing for the succession. Schools were ordered to turn to page 4, column 1.

150 Veterans Jailed After DC Supreme Court Protest

District police cleared steps of the Supreme Court of about 150 Vietnam veterans and several girl protesters as dawn arrests followed a ruling banning camping on the Capitol Mall. Veterans said they would stay overnight despite court orders and voted to continue sleeping on the mall.

U S fliers bomb SAM sites in N Viet on Laotian border

U S fighter bombers attacked radar controlled surface to air missile sites inside North Vietnam and along the Laos border. The strikes marked the sixth protective reaction strike this week and the 27th this year. About 30 B52s dropped nearly 1000 tons on supply routes depots and infiltration corridors in the upper Laotian panhandle and along the DMZ. Two F105 escorts fired Shrike missiles at SAM sites near Mu Gia pass. Results unknown. Casualty figures up to date show 44 974 Americans killed in action and 297 771 wounded.

Oberlin City Manager Seeks Hamilton Post

Oberlin’s city manager Edward C. Smith is among applicants for Hamilton, Ohio city manager. A Hamilton City Hall secretary confirmed his candidacy. A review meeting is set for April 28 with an announcement expected by May 1. Hamilton is under an acting manager. population about 80,000. Smith, 36, has roots in Johnstown, Pa, and Oberlin since 1967.

Cleveland priests meet amid conservative liberal tension

The Second Plenary Session of Cleveland Diocese priests faced high tensions over 21 resolutions on celibacy finances birth control and Vatican II leadership. A majority voted to proceed with votes and to forward results to the bishop and national bishops. The Hilton Inn session drew 400 plus attendees with strong debate expected on parish councils long range planning and audits.
