The county will obtain real time weather information by connecting three stations through telephone lines. Officials say this setup will provide faster alerts and more accurate localized readings for emergency planning and daily operations.
Norma Jones reports the National Weather Service plans three electronic rainfall gauges at Penfield New London and nearby sites linked by telephone for remote readings. The system will tape rainfall amounts every 15 minutes and transmit codes to forecasters, aiding flood forecasts for Black River Vermilion and Mall Hollow areas with Penfield as a check gauge. Installation expected by late summer or early fall with tape records monthly.
