Murder suspect waives jury in Ridgeville slaying case
Daniel Kovarbasich a 16 year old North Ridgeville boy will be judged by Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge after waiving his right to a jury trial. He is charged with killing 55 year old Duane Hurley by beating him with a pickle jar and stabbing him more than 50 times with a kitchen knife. The prosecutor says either the beating or the stab wounds could have been fatal. The defense and prosecutor acknowledged Burge once represented Hurley.

Teen found dead in Elyria pond identified as Jordan Ault
A 19 year old Jordan Ault of Elyria Township was identified by Elyria police as the deceased found in a pond at an industrial park Tuesday morning. He was last heard from around 3 a.m. on Lake Avenue near railroad tracks and found submerged in a small retaining pond at Lee Bullocks Park Way.

Durr executed for 1988 Elyria girl murder
Darryl Durr, 46, was put to death at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville for abducting and killing 16 year old Angel Vincent in 1988. He reportedly showed grim reactions as the lethal injection began and his lawyers argued an anesthesia allergy might affect the dose. The case went before the U S Supreme Court, which declined to intervene.

An inmate intervened to stop a teacher from being assaulted by another inmate at Lorain Correctional Institution.
