Amherst coal supply strains local merchants and families
In Amherst the coal supply tightens as shortages affect stores and households. The Piato Coal Company struggles to meet demand while local merchants report limited stock of items like potatoes, butter, and other groceries. Nearby residents travel for supplies and several residents visit relatives in Cleveland and Elyria, with community events including a funeral and an oratorical contest noted.
