Grand Jury Returns 45 Indictments in County Case Load
The grand jury returned 45 indictments after reviewing 53 cases. Judge John Pincura will arraign the indicted Friday morning. Contino to Surrender Today on Draft Evasion Charge
Hollywood accordion star Dick Contino will surrender to federal authorities in Los Angeles today on a charge of eluding the army draft. Attorney Gerald L. Kales said the 21 year old would appear before U. S. Commissioner Howard V. Calverly. Contino, who rose from a Fresno butcher shop helper to a $4,000 a week star, disappeared the day he was to be sworn into the army last week.

May Draft Call Reduced to Forty Thousand

Inactive Reservists To Be Released Across Services
Washington reports the Defense Department will begin releasing inactive Army reservists in September and finish by year end. Navy and Air Force releases start in July with substantial numbers by October, and Marine reserve releases begin in June. By July 1952 no Marine will serve involuntarily. Assistant Defense Secretary Anna M. Rosenberg told the House Armed Services Committee the plan aims to shorten time to ready reserves by five to six months and create three reserve forces: ready, standby, and retired reserves.
