Clearview High School wins state play trophy in Ohio
Clearview High School captured first place in the Class B division of the Ohio High School Speech League play contest at Ohio State University. The victory marks the school’s ninth trophy in five years and third consecutive state win. The Emperors New Clothes earned the state trophy, with Medina High close behind. Valerie Jenkins praised her team as all entrants earned strong ratings and three students earned All-state honors and a National Thespians Society award.

Flood Crest Bears Down On Small Iowa City
The Mississippi flood crest neared 19.3 feet at Sabula as volunteers manned sandbag dikes and evacuation planned. Dubuque had seen a 22.74 foot high crest, while Red Cross counted about 10,000 homeless in Central Iowa and Northern Illinois as waters advanced.

34 Men Including Twin Brothers Leave For Induction
Twenty year old twin brothers Robert and Ronald Loescher of Center Ridge road became the first Elyria twins inducted since the draft was reactivated eight months ago. A group of 3 percent of Elyria men entered the service this morning along with three volunteers. The local board had a April quota cut from 51 to 26 due to a nationwide decrease in draft activity. John Bycynski of 1025 Middle avenue was named group leader. Local organizations provided gifts and services to inductees including sewing kits from Red Cross workers and New Testaments from the Gideon Bible Society.

Too Much Speed On Curve Causes Route 10 Crash
A crash on Route 10 at LaGrange road at 8 11 p m blamed on excessive speed as a westbound car struck a pole and rolled over injuring two passengers. William J Hill 29 of Wellington led the car into the curve followed by dislocated ankle injuries to Arthur Schroeder 46 of 126 Garvin avenue and facial burns for Anthony Whitman 42 of 67 Chestnut street. A witness Gordon Forbush of LaGrange said the car was traveling too fast. Four hurt in two car crash at East avenue and Second street left Raymond E Smith Wellsburg driver charged with reckless driving and Gene De Mambro 43 Jamestown treated for injuries. Three people were killed in Ohio traffic accidents over the weekend. Donald Chain, 40, of near Lyndon Ross county died when his car collided with a vehicle driven by Nancy Lou Barton, 21, of Canton near Bainbridge. First Lady Helene Fine Dies After Brain Operation
Helene Morgan Fine, 42, wife of Governor John S. Fine, died at University Hospital at 12:05 a.m. after a second major brain operation performed by Dr. Frank E. Nulsen.
