Stark and two companions were stopped for using an ambulance bell as a warning signal on a car. Stark chose to surrender the bell at police headquarters rather than face arrest. Police noted that sounding the bell would cause traffic on the street to pull to the curb and stop, simulating an ambulance arrival.
In New York on April 26, authorities recount the shooting of Giuseppe Masseria known as Joe the Boss. Five attackers entered a restaurant, conspired with his henchmen, and opened fire after a card game. Masseria lay dead with a spade clutching in his hand, as police pressed the case amid fears of gang warfare.
Sheriff Clarence Adams announced this morning that Arthur Wallace and Maurice Rice will be taken to the penitentiary at Columbus to begin their terms for the murder of Norman Watte in Lorain, January 28. Wallace gets a life sentence, Rice a seven year term, Wallace once ran a magic shop where Watte was killed. Riebe is to be taken to Manfield reformatory for an indeterminate term and charge of tabbrees.
