Johnson flies to Honolulu for talks with Korea and Pacific chiefs

President Johnson leaves his Texas ranch for eight hour flight to Honolulu for talks with South Korea's President Park and U S military leaders in the Pacific area. Cyrus R. Vance joins the party to reassure Seoul after the Pueblo seizure as Park weighs sending another South Korean division to Vietnam. Johnson will meet Adm. Grant Sharp, Adm. John McCain, and Park, with a ceremonial Hawaii stop and an Interparliamentary Congress invitation.

Marines Take Hill 881 North In Easter Battle

US Marines seized hill 881 North near Khe Sanh from North Vietnamese defenders in an Easter Day clash. About 108 enemy soldiers were killed, six Marines died, 12 wounded. The fight came as U S forces prepared to shift defense duties to South Vietnamese troops along the DMZ and Khe Sanh area.

Four men rob Lorain bank branch at Colorado and Lehigh

Four armed men robed the Central Security National Bank branch at Colorado and Lehigh Avenues in Lorain shortly before 11 am. Bank tellers described the robbers as all Negro and wearing unspecified disguises. No estimate of takings was provided.

Two GI's killed as North ambush hits Panmunjom zone

UN Command said North Korean ambush killed two American soldiers and two South Koreans a half mile south of the Panmunjom truce meeting site. Two Americans and two South Koreans died, 14 wounded, attackers escaped, border incident labeled a flagrant armistice violation.

High winds and rain cause limited damage across region

A late Easter storm brought gusty winds rain hail and a 14 hour temperature drop from 72 to 36 but caused no serious local damage. Elyria saw 0.33 inches of rain while parts of Lorain Huron and Medina counties reported heavy hail. The Ohio Highway Patrol noted a tornado near Fremont with major damage to a home and garage. Blue Ash Columbus Cleveland and Cincinnati areas reported downed trees lines and property damage but no widespread injuries.

Lorain Man, 21, Killed in Early Morning Crash

A 21 year old Lorain man, Robert Allison of West Erie Avenue, died from extensive burns after his car crashed on Route 611 near Franke Drive and exploded around 5 30 am. Police suspect high speed. two friends accompanied him earlier in Vermilion. Investigators withheld further details.
