Rabbit Wool Used To Make Many Articles

ACAMPO Calif Contrary to the old adage you can have your Easter bunny and wear it too Mrs Kathryn Mattis a San Joaquin county ranch woman does it instead of pulling rabbits out of hats she turns them into head gear and into sweaters socks scarves collars and cuffs as well She starts out with wool from her angora rabbit pets spins it on an old fashioned spinning wheel plies the yarn and then knits it into a garment Her angoras raised on her five acre ranch near Acampo average 12 ounces per rabbit per year As a sweater requires only about four ounces of angora and rabbits do multiply raw material is no problem Mrs Mattis plucks the rabbits just before they are about to melt The No 1 grade of angora is about two and a half inches long and most pluckers separate it into the seven different grades as they work Mrs Mattis however finds it simpler for her to put all the wool together in a jar
