Indians Beat White Sox as Lemon Shuts Them Down
The Cleveland Indians won their second straight over Chicago 6 3 to stay atop the American League standings. Lefty Bob Lemon pitched well after a rocky first inning, allowing only one hit the rest of the way and earning the win as Cleveland built leads in the first, third, fourth, eighth, and ninth innings. Al Rosen and Wally Westlake led the hitting with Rosen adding three singles and Avila two hits while Westlake homered. Attendance reached 7,872 with rain threatening a postponed opener against Detroit.
