Italy Expands Highway Drive to Lead Europe

Italy has spent around 100 million dollars over six years on highway construction under Mussolini. The road network now tops 12 600 miles with 3 764 miles built in six years, plus 851 miles previously. Trees line routes, gardens skirt towns, and 300 miles of new roads provide shortcuts. Signposts, signals, and warnings aim to boost safety, with 107 of 856 level crossings removed and watchmen added at key crossings. A dedicated snow-clearing department serves Alpine passes and maintenance services improve year round.
