Two blast furnaces and seven open hearth furnaces stay in operation while the Bessemer converter runs a single shift. Probe Bombing Of Power Tower At Avon
Sheriff Clarence W. Dick investigated a bombing near Avon that damaged an 85 foot power transmission tower for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company. He found no suspects or motive, but suspects vandals and gangsters aimed to throw the city into darkness. The blast tipped the tower but did not drop it, damaging one parallel line and reducing Avon plant output from 190000 to 30000 horsepower. A $5000 reward was offered for the vandals' apprehension and conviction.
