Report from Paris notes German government troops entered the Ruhr on April 7 interrupting tentative economic talks. Authorities suspect the move was deliberate to force a radical German policy under the Versailles treaty.
Berlin denounces the occupation as an unheard of action by German cities in the neutral region. Officials say the measures aim to prevent the Ruhr region and safeguard peace, while condemning the move as out of proportion to the situation.
Mrs. J Rocky of 971 12 Foster avenue was convicted of child neglect after Humane Society action. Justice Hughes fined her 100 dollars and costs with six months in the Toledo workhouse, suspended if she leaves the state by Saturday night. The city and Moose lodge aided her, but the judge called her undeserving and said the city is better off without her.
Charles Guth, a well known barber, opens a new barber shop in the basement of the Lorain County Bank building. Former owner of the Toplis House shop, he invites customers to visit his finy new quarters noted as among the finest in the city.
Milwaukee April 7 Daniel W Hoan Socialist mayoral candidate for reelection leads his non partisan rival Clifton Williams by 8605 votes with 184 of 199 precincts reporting in yesterday's election.
A substitute ticket agent at the N C depot was robbed of 70 dollars after a gypsy fortune teller visited his office. A gypsy couple were seen leaving the city in a Ford sedan, and police seek them as suspects.
Mountain Ash Welsh Male Concert Choir will perform in Mountain Ash on April 10 at the Methodist church. Sponsor Mayer Jones praises their top male singers, noting each member is chosen for artistic value. Mr and Mrs John Jacobson of Erle, Pa., are guests of Mr and Mrs Andrew Martin of Lodi Street.
The city leads a campaign to enforce the automobile ordinance after Mayor Jones orders a round up of speeding violators. Police will target violations in the business district including passing dis charging streetcars and driving on the wrong side. Chief Stankard tunes the city motorcycle as the drive begins with warning to speeders.
Friends congratulate H. T. Underhill on his appointment as State Dairy Inspector for Ohio, who assumed duties April first. He formerly co owned Underhill Creamery in Elyria and will remain based in Elyria with his family.
The city of Elvria may lay four and a half miles of new water main after bids came in at 264000, deemed excessive. A public meeting is set for Wednesday at 7 pm in the Chamber of Commerce with Mayor Jones inviting council members and the public to attend and help resolve the issue.
The American Legion minstrel show tonight draws attention after a parade of about two hundred soldiers and marines, led by the city band. A balcony and possibly the gallery may be opened to seat additional attendees.
The Columbia Steel Co has secured a building permit for a large addition to the plant. The new structure will house a cold rolled steel product line and will double the plant’s capacity to meet strong demand.
The Riverview Park Amusement Co announces Brigadier General Charles X Zimmerman of Cleveland has joined their board of directors. Zimmerman previously managed Lane Park in Cleveland before heading to the border and remains active in local interests. The company cites his experience as a valuable addition.
After weeks of alterations the Leedale and Shafer barber shop in Sharp block moved to the basement under their former room. Billy and Jake fitted the quarters with white tile walls and floors, mirrors, and a bright lighting scheme. The shop has served customers for eighteen years and will soon add a wholesale and retail cigar store in the vacated room.
Five hundred switchmen said to have struck in Buffalo in sympathy with the Chicago group. Erie and Pennsylvania lines reportedly abstained while other railroads halted freight in and out of the city, disrupting arrivals and departures.
Officials say streetcar workers have endorsed a new wage scale, ending a dispute that threatened to disrupt service. The vote approved scale levels ranging from 49 to 75 cents, to be applied by the Ohio and Pennsylvania Electric Company in Youngstown.
Reform movement in St Louis calls for a new labor union as East St. Louis workers push for wage gains. In Chicago, 8500 locomotive engineers and firemen voted to join an unauthorized switchmen strike, threatening freight traffic and livestock receipts.
Anna Pakrozy asks the court for alimony from Joe Pakrozy proprietor of a Third and West River street soft drink stand. She alleges recent heavy drinking, assaults with bottles and glass, and repeated insults and quarrels at his business.
Bertha Verman, wife of Lorain fireman Leo Verman, files for divorce on wilful absence and gross neglect after ill health and abandonment. She seeks alimony. Harvey Eckenroad also seeks a divorce from Grace Eckenroad on gross neglect of duty.
Mrs John Downs of Carlisle dies at home after weeks of illness. She lived in Carlisle for 54 years and is survived by her husband and several children including Mrs J Webber Elyrna Mrs John Dugan Wakeman Patrick and James. Also seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services set for Thursday at 9 AM at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial at St Marys Cemetery.
Detroit April 7 belated returns from Monday's presidential primary add little to totals from two thirds of precincts. Senator Hiram W. Johnson leads Major General Leonard Wood by 42 251 on the Republican ticket. Herbert Hoover tops Governor S Edward of New Jersey by 44 1066 votes.
