Invacare president Malachi Mixon III says the maker of wheelchairs is committed to the area but warns it is not certain to stay in Elyria. The firm has grown from 300 to over 2,000 employees since 1980, with 1,200 to 1,500 in Elyria, and is weighing expansion sites in North Ridgeville and nearby cities while seeking favorable tax incentives to stay profitable amid rivals. Mixon notes relocations would occur within a 20 mile radius and confirms options include land in North Ridgeville and sites on Taylor Street and Cleveland Street.
A four month probe into theft of government supplied commodities from the Green Acres Children's Home was presented to a Lorain County grand jury. Sheriff Martin Mahony said indictments, if any, would be secret until served. Marion Gordon denied wrongdoing while prosecutor Gregory White confirmed the presentation.
