Higgins Electric wins stadium contract for Cleveland project

Higgins Electric Co. of Elyria is among three firms awarded bids for Cleveland's NFL stadium. Higgins will handle electrical work for about 1.4 million, far under estimate. Independence Excavating will do site and culvert work for nearly 10.5 million, with W. Franks Construction building a $215 million natural grass field. The 72,000-seat stadium aims to host a successor Browns team in 1999, with seven bid packages left and costs about 13 million over budget. Mayor White plans budget talks after the final electrical contract in July.
