Cleveland to get new Amtrak station
Amtrak directors approved a plan to build a new rail passenger station beside the current temporary facility on Cleveland-owned land between City Hall and Cleveland Stadium. Construction to begin next month with completion in late autumn. Final costs to be set after bid. Amtrak rejected the Union Terminal option due to cost and added travel time. Cleveland remains a major stop on the Lake Shore Limited. Additionally, Amtrak Board approved Pennsylvania’s plan to subsidize a Harrisburg bound train, potentially impacting the Lake Shore Limited routes via Elyria and Erie. Ohio voters defeated a similar plan last fall.
