Ronald J Born a former car salesman killed three Miami Beach plainclothes detectives during a confrontation at a motel room while resisting arrest on federal car theft charges. He then shot himself, dying in a Miami hospital. His girlfriend Cathy Creighton testified he would not surrender if sent to prison and faced federal charges from Ohio and Florida. A bench warrant had been issued after he failed to appear to plead guilty.
