Elyria Jaycees announce the twelfth annual Distinguished Service Award banquet on Monday April 27 at the Elk’s Ballroom. Bruce A Leitenberger is general chairman. A public event with a yet undisclosed guest speaker and a civic leader chosen by a resident committee.
Heavy clouds over North Korea limited Allied air operations and halted major ground fighting. The UN said ground action neared a standstill while Marines in the northwest of Seoul faced seven minor clashes, and South Korean raids on the Nam River front produced several dozen North Korean casualties.

Seven new board members will take office at 6 30 p m at the Graystone Hotel in Elyria after the annual election. The group will choose a successor to Frank P Weil as president and ratify officers including Fred W Lotmes Marion Crowder Carl Niemeyer Dexter Kimbell Jr Necris Ryder for the coming year.

Current funds total 22 000 for county home improvements and 18 000 for juvenile detention quarters at Oberlin Children's Home. relocation plans for Oberlin have been abandoned. Thompson would present the plan to the board of commissioners if allowed. Ewing will request a ruling from the attorney general.
Dr. Arthur Flemming, president of Ohio Wesleyan University, is reported in line for director of the Office of Defense Mobilization in the Eisenhower administration. He currently serves as acting director and is a trusted member of the President's staff. A university trustee official said Flemming would take leave of absence if new Washington duties require it.
Rep. Ross G. Sweet said a House subcommittee will likely complete a bill to improve telephone service next week. The group, led by Sweet, is reviewing several measures and plans to combine them into a single bill in Columbus.
Washington reports say the United Nations may tie a Korean armistice to a warning to the Reds that major peace violations or aggression elsewhere could trigger stiff Allied retaliation. Officials doubt the Reds act from peace aims and warn of possible ruses to pull Allied troops from Korea or shift aggression to other targets.
A federal mediator met with top Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen officers in a pre-dawn session in Pittsburgh as a flash strike halted operations at four U S Steel plants. About 1,500 BRT workers at Union Railroad, a U S Steel subsidiary, walked out over a 10 day suspension of two conductors, idling roughly 35,000 production workers and stopping 25,000 tons of steel daily. The union stated it would not change its position and mediator Lane expressed no progress toward settlement.
United Nations leaders hailed a surprise East West deal on nominating Dag Hammarskjold of Sweden as secretary general. The Security Council voted ten to zero with one abstention to recommend Hammarskjold to the General Assembly, seen as a step toward harmony and effectiveness in the UN.

Sentence was withheld today for ten inmates at the federal reformatory in Chillicothe after they pleaded guilty to inciting a riot of about 200 inmates last fall. The court delayed sentencing until all prisoners indicted have made their appearances.
