May Show At Canton Art Institute Encourages New Artists
The Canton Art Institute plans outreach to Stark County artists to enter the May Show, seen as a first step to higher competition like the Fall Regional Show and Butler Art Institute's New Year show. Director Hugh Olmes notes many amateurs have yet to seize the opportunity, while landscape works and ceramics gain prominence among entries by Hill, Bennett, Carson, Zollar, Grunwald, Leavenworth, South, Owens, Miller, Solomon, Niarchos, Hang, Allman, Rainey, and Rubin.

New Books Review Highlights Bold Biographies and Travel
Alfred Tennyson by Charles Tennyson offers a frank yet respectful portrait that may seem overly favorable to the poet. Golden Doorway to Tibet by Nichol Smith and Loren Tutell captures a light travelogue but leaves readers wishing for a deeper description of the country. O Huge Angel by Howard BeER presents violent fiction with incoherent prose yet a strong emotional core. Hunter's Horn by Harriette Arnow delivers a lengthy home spun tale of hill people and first love with warm, vivid scenes.
