Skyrocketing Cost of Atom Plant Defended
Washington dispatch reports the Atomic Energy Commission defends rising costs at the Hanford plutonium plant as vital for national defense and safety. Despite charges of waste and extravagance by Senator Hickenlooper, the agency cites urgency from postwar tests and safety redesigns as reasons for cost growth from 6.25 million to an estimated 25 million. Senator Ferguson predicts full funding amid House-approved totals.
