Mrs. Martin H. Schmid honored as Canton’s Woman of the Year for four decades of church and civic work. She arrived in Canton in 1909, taught at St. Paul’s Episcopal, led the YWCA, and held roles with the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio, Aultman Home for the Aged, Mercy Hospital, Red Cross, and Canton Woman’s Club. The award was presented at the Junior League luncheon in the Onesta Hotel.

One million civil employees walked out in a 24 hour warning strike across France in ministries prefectures post offices telegraph offices monetary exchanges the mint tobacco and match industry and telephone service. Hospital mail and garbage collection were curtailed as law courts and park guards abstained. Public transport remained mostly unaffected.
