Ohio Legislature Passes Toll Road Bill Amid Slow Session
In Columbus the 98th General Assembly moved slowly with 28 bills passed while 3 defeated and 4 delayed. Governor Lausche signed a toll super-road bill with a 90 day effective date unless a referendum gathers enough signatures. The House backed 50 50 local matching aid for poor relief though funds are short by 646 000. Senate scrapped the bridge formula for truck overloading in favor of axle weight rules and approved a cattle Bangs disease vaccination program with a 1 million dollar budget. A Sandusky Bay fishing and conservation study commission was authorized with a 1951 report due, and ticket scalping became a misdemeanor. The budget was trimmed by about 6.3 million, largely from state universities.
