In Hamilton on July 11, the Ohio American Legion auxiliary faced criticism at its fourth district convention for not holding an election that could have sent 16 year old Joan Rankin of Cincinnati to Washington as Buckeye Girls State governor. An auxiliary spokesman said the Girls State governor does not automatically advance to the national level and a special Ohio delegation election would not occur this year.
