Truman Reiterates Anti Depression Plan To Congress
President Truman plans to unveil in his midyear economic report a framework for an anti depression program built on January proposals. Expect federal loans to industry, public works plans, farm living standards, expanded social security and unemployment pay, and higher minimum wage while debating a tax increase. The housing bill’s passage may influence construction, and turmoil surrounds any tax increase amid a $1.8 billion deficit. The Virgin Islands note adds a regional detail.
