Trial Opens in Frisco on Tokyo Rose Treason Case

The United States begins a treason trial against Iva Toguri D Aquino known as Tokyo Rose. Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty and seek life or lesser punishment for eight treason counts. Jury selection favors an all white panel as preliminary testimony and broadcast recordings are set to be introduced. The defense questions citizenship and radio control as factors in the case. New Plan Offered Road Squabble Imperils 200 Jobs

A new plan to relocate the Greentown to Mt Union road near the Diamond-Portland Cement Co would avert lay offs. Company officials asked county commissioners to allow a temporary southern road while mining ends and the original route would be restored later. Rain and heat ease in Canton as temps plunge

A Canton heat wave relented with a 10 degree drop from 96 at noon to 86 by 2 pm as rain and cooling winds moved through. Forecasters warned the respite would be temporary with above normal temps through Friday or Sunday. Road crews reported buckling on several highways and urged caution to drivers amid sudden pavement failures.

Canton Schools Seek 1.5 Mill Levy to Raise Salaries
