U.S. Steel Pay Talks Resume On Wednesday
In Pittsburgh on July 5 AP reports big steel and United Steelworkers resume contract talks against a 10 day strike deadline. The 850,000 member union demands general wage hikes plus company financed pension and insurance, while U S Steel resists pensions and vows full response at next meetings. The contract runs a year but opened this year on pay and insurance. If no deal by July 16 a strike is possible. Union notes compliance with Taft Hartley 60 day notice.
