Republican Convention in Ithaca Endorses Administration and Fordney

At the Ithaca county convention Republicans endorsed the administration and praised hopefuls for the November ballot. Delegates elected to the state convention included Ezra L. Smith and Arthur Murphy among others, with 72 of 186 delegates present. A resolution congratulating Hon. Joseph W. Fordney, retiring congressman from this district, was read as part of the day’s proceedings.

By council action the city of Alma will revert from Eastern to Central Standard Time at midnight October 1 The change discussed in commission proceedings will take effect Sunday at midnight ensuring residents set clocks back one hour to avoid Monday confusion.

Alma College to Add New Fireproof Stack Room

Alma College plans a westward expansion of its library with a new fireproof stack room adjoining the museum at an estimated cost near 40000 dollars. Architects will begin plans soon, the project likely a year away. Alma College to get a new heating plant soon

Alma College will install a larger heating plant with three boilers, doubling capacity over the old two. The old brick stack will be replaced, allowing future classes to paint their numerals, while the project costs about 8000 dollars. President Crooks says it will not be ready today.

M. A. C. Opens for Sixty Sixth Year At Michigan Agricultural College

Michigan Agricultural College opened its sixty sixth year on September 27 with high early enrollments expected to reach or exceed last year's 1,600 students. Agricultural and engineering programs lead in enrollment while home economics applied science forestry and veterinary medicine follow. This year marks the first full term under President David Friday and Secretary H. A. Halladay as new college executives guiding MA C into a new era.

Rural Carrier Examination Opens In Alma Michigan

The U S Civil Service Commission announces an exam on October 14 1922 in Alma Michigan for rural carrier vacancies at Crystal Michigan and nearby routes. Salaries: wagon routes 1800 a year plus 80 per mile over 24. motor routes 2450 to 2600 a year. Separate exams no longer, appointments from the name register. Open to citizens domiciled in the post office territory, with Form 177 requirements. Both men and women may enter but sex may be specified for certification. Women with military disability or widows of service members may be considered. Forms and blanks available, apply promptly to Washington DC.

Free Saturday Shows at Strand Theatre for Farmers

A new arrangement in Alma states the Strand theatre will host free Saturday afternoon shows from 1 30 to 8 30 for farmers and local friends. The Alma Plant of the Michigan Sugar wing plans the annual beet slicing and sugar production campaign likely starting between October 1 and 12. Laurense Dead Alma College Trustee in Detroit

Leonard Laurense of Detroit, longtime Alma College trustee, died at home after a long illness. He was the second Alma trustee to die in forty days, following Dr. James Barkley, former board chairman. Laurense was known for sending calendars to faculty and students every Christmas despite poor health. He had one of the best attendance records among trustees until two years ago.
