Browns Exemption Case Highlights Draft Board Delays

The Orrie Ruben Brown case from St Louis and Lansing illustrates delays and confusion in draft exemptions. Despite letters from Brown’s wife claiming support needs and affidavits, Brown did not file the required forms, leaving the exemption boards with little to act on and prompting action from the local draft board and Lansing appeal board. The situation underscores procedural gaps in the selection process and the boards’ reliance on proper filings to determine exemption.
