Alma’s Automobile Man Burdette Forquer Built From Hard Work
Alma and Gratiot County know Burdette Forquer as the hustling automobile man. He moved to Alma six years ago from St. Louis, opened a bicycle shop, expanded to sporting goods and phonographs, then secured a Ford agency in 1907 and became the town’s auto specialist. His big garage on Gratiot and Superior houses a phonograph and sporting goods department run by Edam Abbott, with three skilled machinists keeping the repair shop busy. Disease of success aside, Forquer is well liked and recognized for his relentless effort and enterprise.

John Towsley, a 65 year old farmer from Ferris township, died after a threshing engine ran over him while he attempted to free a stuck pin at Mrs. M. T. Chambers home near Perris Center. He died the following morning from internal injuries and possible spinal damage. he left a wife, two sons, and three daughters.

Bean Buyers at Alma Discuss Handling Peak Michigan Crop
