Knights of Pythias Day Ends With 12–11 Alma Victory

The city held a Knights of Pythias field day last Thursday featuring a baseball game won by Alma 12 to 11 over St. Louis. Alma built a big lead as St. Louis rallied late. City Marshal J D Helman hit three base hits and starred in the field. Notable St Louis players included F M Vandercook. Alma’s lineup included Heisman Decker Smith Berry Hoyt Clarke Slinghot Anderson Miner Whitaker Medler Freeland Stinchcomb Campbell Muchenrider. The Alma military band performed a concert that evening at the Park and the Pythian sisters served ice cream to a large crowd.

Alma Military Band Darling Hits for Two Packed Shows

The Talk of the Town benefit for the Alma Military Band directed by Cowan and Walker played to packed houses on Tuesday and Wednesday. Miss Mabel Strong led Asia That with grace while Miss Mildred Ricketts and G. S. Vosburgh starred. Sally the Tom Boy and Bumps the Town Fool drew applause as Adra Miller danced Highlands folk songs. Directors Cowan and Walker earned praise for staging success. all involved were satisfied.

Citizens Meeting Promotes 75000 for Alma Plant

Over a hundred business men gathered at the Realty Opera House to discuss funding a Gordon Press Feeder factory for Miller Saw Trimmer Co. D F Johnson outlined the project, Miller’s patent efforts, and potential benefits including up to four hundred local jobs. A committee of five was appointed to pursue the capital, with initial pledges surpassing seventy five thousand dollars. The event also notes a September wedding in St Louis and plans for a Lansing homecoming after October first.

Ferris to Speak on State Issues at Several Cities

Democratic governor candidate Hon Woodbridge N. Ferris will deliver addresses on political issues at Breckenridge on September 2 at Maccabee Hall, eleven a.m. In St. Louis on September 23 at Opera House, five p.m. Riverdale on September 2, 1612 at Wyeth Hall, two p.m. Alma on September 25, 1612 at Realty Opera House, eight p.m. Ferris described as Michigan’s best public speaker and platform orator with a message of hope and cheer.

Opened the Campaign in Alma for Archie McCall

Archie McCall of Ithaca opened his four week campaign in Alma with a speech from an auto in front of Cush ing Benedicts store. He endorsed Wilson Ferris and attacked tariffs while appealing to farmers and laborers and urging support against Lindquist letters. He promised tariff adjustments and sugar beet relief and planned debates as he travels through Boyne City Charlevoix and the district.
