Cave in breaks man’s leg in ditch collapse at Hastings and State
John Skiver suffered a broken right leg between knee and ankle when a cave in at a four foot ditch on Hastings and State street Friday morning. Heavy clay soil formed rock like chunks. he was moved home to Maple street where Dr. Lamb treated the broken bones.

Noe of Bethany Suffers Heavy Loss in Storm
CE Noe, resident of the old Emanuel Oster farm three miles east and two miles south of St Louis, lost six horses one cow two thousand bushels of oats seventy five tons of hay when his barn and granary burned amid a Sunday storm. Estimated damage exceeds six thousand dollars with insurance at seventeen hundred. Noe recently moved from Illinois and faced harsh misfortune.

Parsons Leaves Ann Arbor RR for Alma Mater Civil Engineering Position
Channing Parsons who has worked in the Ann Arbor railroad’s chgiicering department since his graduation from Michigan Agricultural College last June has accepted an assistant professorship in civil engineering at his Alma Mater. He sent in his resignation about a month ago and it took effect Tuesday. Parsons will spend a few days here before leaving for East Lansing on September 20. He is the son of Mr and Mrs George Parsons of this city and is a 1908 Alma high school graduate. He studied at Alma College and spent three years at M A C, earning a civil engineering degree last June. He made a splendid record at M A C and his personality recommended him to college officers.

Audience Disappointed As Prof Goodrich Fails To Arrive
At the Methodist church last Thursday evening the audience was disappointed by the no show of Professor F. S. Goodrich. A derailed car between Lansing and Owosso delayed his connections. telegrams arrived late and the train moved on half way to Alma before the message was delivered. The Bible class planned an ante and arrival by the professor, but plans shifted to an artistically set banquet where Mr Holmes, the president, yielded toasts from several gentlemen. Visitors included Mr GH Carl, Mr J D Spinney, and Prof R Fr Veatch. The class looks forward to similar events in the fall and winter.
