Alma City to review special sewer assessment October 7 1913

The roll of the special assessment for the State street sewer in Alma Michigan is on file for public inspection. The City Council and Board of Special Assessors will meet October 7 1913 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the council rooms to review the assessment and hear objections. Saginaw Boy Donald Royce Earns Cadet Commander Honor

A Baltimore dispatch to the Detroit Free Press dated September 5 reports Donald Royce of Saginaw Michigan advanced to cadet commander and brigade adjutant at the Naval Academy. His appointment reflects exemplary conduct and efficiency during the last year at the academy and on the cruise. Royce is nephew of T A Ely and previously resided in Alma with parents Mr. and Mrs. Royce, drawing congratulations from friends who hope to see him lead in Uncle Sam’s navy.

Potato crop short shocks Chicago market

Chicago dispatch reports a leading crop expert declaring the United States potato harvest this year will be 100 million bushels smaller than last year. Prices for Minnesota and Ohio potatoes in Chicago have risen to 10 cents a bushel.

Mumford Urges Consolidation To Cut Egg Losses

Dr Eben Mumford of Lansing told Washtenaw farmers at Ann Arbor Courthouse that Washtenaw eggs move 10,000,000 dozen yearly with waste driving $50,000 annual losses. He urged neighbors to cooperate for diversified farming and combined selling to reduce marketing costs and boost profits.

Shot at officers by Adrian Wilds from Sumner

A man about 50 from Adrian Wilds of Sumner Gratiot county who had been lurking in woods south of Owosso, fired on officers, was captured after a half mile chase, found with two loaded revolvers and $40. Identified as a suspect in July thefts from farms near St Johns. He is jailed and may face charges for carrying concealed weapons.

Alma coaches to headline western intercollegiate football

Shepherd of the Hills Dramatic Adaptation at Realty Opera House

Harold Bell Weight and Elsberg W Reynolds have adapted The Shepherd of the Hills into a stage play. Gaskill MacVitty and Manager Adams present the production with the original cast at Realty Opera House on Sept 25 featuring Ozark life characters such as Sammy Lane and Father Howitt. Eastern Star Picnic Togethers In Wright Park

A large turnout Thursday September 11 gathered from Ithaca St. Louis Breckenridge Ashley North Star and Alma to Wright park for an old fashioned picnic dinner. After social time the group of ninety adjourned to the Masonic Home gym for a business session led by Worthy Matron Mrs. W. H. Parr and temporary secretary Lee Potts of Ithaca. Mrs Minnie E. Kyes Grand Worthy Matron spoke on county organization as Prof Veatch and T. A. Fannell of Alma College provided music to hearty applause.

Ryness Rites Held. Moody School Reunion Noted

Mrs Sarah Ryness sister of Henry Otto of Ithaca died Sept 10 1915 at her daughter Mrs Leonora Sharp’s Springville home in Wexford county. Remains moved to Ithaca and placed in Otto vault then interred at Fulton Center cemetery. Silas Moody school pupils held second reunion in St Louis Christian church with officers elected for year. Alma attendees praised their long-ago teacher. Potato crates advertised at Caple Hardware.

Annual Meeting Of Church of Christ In Alma

The Fifth District Michigan Church of Christ held its annual convention in Alma last week with 100 delegates. Sessions ran Thursday to Sunday featuring songs, addresses by Thos H Adams and J C Meese, business meetings, and devotional times. Officers elected included President H Meese and Secretary Treasurer Rev Bridwell.
