County Committee Chooses Salter Leader After Seville Exclusion

Delegates from nearly all townships attend the county convention at Ithaca with 86 votes cast of 117. Marvin Salter of Ithaca elected chairman to succeed Hoy A. Darragh after 16 years. The county committee lists 18 members from towns including Bethany, Newark, Ithaca, Hamilton, New Haven, and Seville, with an executive panel formed by Salter, Darragh, Mull, and Mull as secretary.

Harry Helmer former Alma athlete and Mt. Pleasant Normal coach married Havel Potter August 24 in Parma home. He starred on four football four baseball one basketball two track teams and was a M I A A champion heavy wrestler. Now Y M C A director in Cadillac and coach at Central Normal. The couple plan to reside in Mt. Pleasant after a short wedding trip.

Tragic death shocks Alma bank family and town

Ely Brewbaker, longtime cashier and director of the First State Bank of Alma, Mich., died by self inflicted gunshot after years of frail health. The bank's directors issued condolences and affirmed strong financials, naming G S Ward as new cashier. Funeral held with Masonic rites. community mourns and reformulated leadership follows.

State roads drive shown by Ely in busy summer

State Highway Commissioner T A Ely reports a vigorous summer for road work with more than sixty miles of gravel and over a hundred forty miles inspected this season. He cited new gravel roads near Clare and passes near Edmore and Six Lakes as proof of progress. Ely, traveling parts of central Michigan, expects a record summer and praises crews statewide.

Swiss inventor Bangerter staged a gun demonstration that reportedly fires 1,000,000 bullets per hour at $20, using bullets without shells and no powder or compressed air. Second Annual Flower Show Draws Strong Local Support

The Civic League of Alma hosted the second annual flower show for Ward and Union schools with fewer exhibitors but higher quality. Ward won the largest prize, 250 crocus baths, and Union won for best quality. Special prizes and numerous ribbons followed as Mayor McClinton awarded awards and praised the children.

Reception Honors Rev Dildine and Wife Missionaries

A reception in the M E church parlors Monday honored Rev and Mrs Harry E Dildine returning missionaries from China. Attendants heard talks on China in Chinese costumes, with a musical program and refreshments. The Dildines, after a year furlough, plan to return to China for seven more years.
