Alma adopts voluntary 6 30 closing plan for stores

Miller Bros. started early closing in Alma with 6 30 pm weekday closures and another store joined. By voluntary agreement, two shops will close every evening except Saturday and will stay open the week before Christmas. Mr. Robinson cites 34 hour labor law compliance and better customer service as motives. Local merchants urged others to follow suit for permanent, wider adoption.

Frank Leonard of Brooklyn spoke on Christian Science last Tuesday at the Opera House. Introduced by L. N. Marsh of Mt. Pleasant, Leonard argued that Christian Science is a demon stratle religion. His one and a half hour address drew a good audience and included healing illustrations.

Fire at Lincoln Avenue Sawdust Pile Ignites Alert

A group of twenty six workers led by H G Miller and R T Petrie arrives in Alma to establish the Miller Saw Trimmer Co plant. Ten carloads of machinery from Milwaukee arrive, with skilled mechanics securing housing while the factory on East Superior Street readies for Sept. 20 production. The move expands capacity and positions Alma as a modern manufacturing hub with rail access and promotional events ahead.

Automatic feeding device for Gordon type presses

The firm plans an automatic feeding device for platen presses of the Gordon type as part of a broader corporate reorganization. Ammi W. Alma schools enroll record growth prompts facility plans

W W Stopple departs for Washington and Cleveland to unveil the Security Fireproof Steel Paperhalter, a device he designed. Children Flower and Vegtable Show at Alma Reading Room

The Civic League of Alma presents a school children flower and vegetable exhibit at the Free Reading Room on State Street next Saturday Sept 10 from 9 30 am to 6 pm. Admission 5 cents except exhibitors with badges for free entry. Judges include Mrs T F Timby Mr J A Bittner for flowers and Mr A Burgland Mr J Ee Sartor Sr for vegetables. Prizes include 250 crocus bulbs to the school with the best overall exhibited quality, plus prizes for best flowers and vegetables and for the best garden. Exhibitors must bring tied specimens, prepare bouquets artistically, wash vegetables, and provide slips with name address and school. All entries due by 9 30 am and prizes awarded at 4 pm by Mayor McClinton.
