Alma Sugar Company's Plant Aims for 1910 Improvements

The Alma Sugar Company will start 1910 with major plant improvements including twenty five receiving stations in Gratiot and Isabella counties for farmers delivering beets. New stations on Ann Arbor and Grand Trunk railroads, a mixer for beet pulp and molasses, an elevator and flume, a brick seed warehouse, and a steer barn are described. The outlook is bright with expected higher acreage and strong demand, despite regional competition.

Ithaca Democratic County Convention Names State Delegates

The Ithaca county Democratic convention elected C. M. Brown as chairman and chose Newton Burns and others as delegates to the state convention. Gaylord Helms named secretary and Thos. Garlock treasurer. A full list of county committee members and local delegates followed, with numerous town reps including Alma, Bethany, Pine River, Stamps, Arcada and others.

Burns family departs Gratiot for Boulder Colorado

Charlee Burns a Gratiot county resident for four decades leaves Monday with wife and daughters Grace and Helen bound for Boulder Colorado where Miss Calia Burns is now located. Shurnts rents his residence to Frank Horst and the east house to John Cheek. After 54 years in Gratiot county friends hope for their prosperity and The Record will report further local happenings.

Infant Stanley Moore Dies At Four Months

Stanley Moore aged four months, son of Mr and Mrs Harry Moore of this city, died this morning. Funeral services will be held tomorrow Friday afternoon from the home on Park Avenue, conducted by Rev Cook of the Baptist Church. In their great bereavement the Moores have the sympathy of their numerous Alma friends.

Michigan Delegation Attends National Conservation Congress

Alma joins nine Michigan cities at the Second National Conservation Congress in St. Paul Minnesota. Delegates Francie King and Mrs King attend with leaders from Marquette Negaunee Houghton Lansing Cadillac Au Sable East Jordan and Detroit. Theodore Roosevelt delivered the principal address as Michigan delegates organized, elected officers and urged conservation actions.

Will It Pay to Advertise A House Full Of Goods

Bean Jobbers Meet at Eighteenth Michigan Convention

The eighteenth annual Michigan Bean Jobbers Association convention closes today after sessions in Saginaw. Wednesday opened with a prayer and welcome by Shannan mayor G W Stewart, with Weaver of Milford giving the response. Prof W V Raven and W J Orr spoke on agricultural topics, and Thursday featured papers by prominent bean jobbers. A. T. Ferrer & Company hosted a Wednesday evening reception and factory visit showcasing elevator machinery. Alma dealers are represented. W P Cash of Riverdale is secretary.

Wife and mother Mrs A A Chick dies after long illness

Early Monday morning Mrs A A Chick died after thirteen weeks of poor health. The funeral was held Wednesday at her home with Rev J Frank Jackson of St John’s church officiating. Interment was in River View cemetery. Mrs Chick leaves husband A A Chick and three children Pauline, John, and Matton KE Chick, with extended family from Lansing Maple Rapids Otsego and other areas attending the ceremony.

Millinery Openings At Local Shops Enthrall Women

Last Thursday through Saturday Mrs. Gaffney on State Street held a fall opening attracting many women seeking the newest headgear. Mrs. Humphrey also presented the latest fall hats on Thursday Friday and Saturday. Show windows were attractively decorated as parlors of both shops displayed an extra large line of Gage hats noted as among the finest shown between Grand Rapids and Saginaw.
