Republicans Elect New County Committee Delegates at Ithaca Convention

Delegates were chosen to attend the state Republican convention in Saginaw on September 28. Gratiot County Republicans met at the Ithaca courthouse on September 11 at 1:00 PM, electing C. J. Chambers as chairman and Nelson as secretary, appointing temporary officers, and approving committees on credentials resolutions and permanent organization. The report lists numerous delegates by precinct across Alma, Ithaca, Elba, and other townships, with seats allotted after examination of certifications.

Lad Nearly Dies From Fumes In Tank Car

Gas fumes from an oil tank nearly killed Gordon Powell a boy on Michigan Avenue Sunday evening. He and a companion played near a tank car. Powell entered a manhole and sank gasping. Harrie Willard and Ford Gargett pulled him out unconscious, then Dr. Gardner and others tended him. He recovered enough to return home, vowing not to return to tank cars.

Fifth District Bankers Banquet At Alma Hosts Record Turnout

The Fifth District Bankers association held a banquet in Alma after electing William I. Clements of Bay City as president and C. Roby of Saginaw as secretary. The event drew 113 attendees, featured musical numbers by local artists, and included speeches on banking topics by Benton Hanchett, Gillete, and RC Roshifuss, with Fred Keeler closing remarks on Michigan’s greatest problem. City to Pave Again on Michigan Avenue Block

City authorities plan paving another block on Michigan avenue this year extending to Bridge street. Contract not yet awarded but expected soon. The work will cover the Republic Motor Truck Company frontage and proceeds after sewer work and previous funding delays. Carney Family In Detroit Auto Crash Injures Four

Dr Ed Carney of Durand and family members were struck by a city car on Woodward Avenue in Detroit. Dr Carney, his wife, her sister, and Frances Carney were badly burned and cut from gasoline that caught fire. Frances is in critical condition and may not survive.

Republic Motor Truck expands with three new plant buildings

The Republic Motor Truck Company awarded three contracts to local builder Henry Soule for new brick structures at the main plant on Michigan Avenue and Bridge Street in Plymouth Michigan. A 1000 by 60 foot single story assembly hall, a 128 by 100 foot replacement, and a 24 by 400 foot rear storage building are planned to support rapid company growth.
