Delegates instructed to back James A. Greene for attorney general

Gratiot County Republican delegates met in Ithaca to bind their support for James A. Greene of Alma as the party’s attorney general candidate at the Saginaw state convention on September 22. The resolutions committee led by H. S. Babcock pushed a binding clause. opponents were defeated with one vote in support of nonbinding. The party pledged undivided support for Harding, Groesbeck, Fortney, and Greene, urging all means to secure Greene’s nomination. Delegates elected for Saginaw included C. J. Chambers, S. C. Burgdorff, John Chick, Arthur Murphy, and others. State Senator Hicks spoke to the gathering.

Clinic At Alma City Hall Next Week

Plans announce a health clinic at Alma city hall from Monday to Saturday next week backed by the Gratiot County Good Health Society. TJ Rose and De Ramsey lead the event focusing on tuberculosis child hygiene and care for returned soldiers and influenza sufferers. In Mt Pleasant the Transport Truck team suffered a clean sweep loss to the Republic Trucks, 5-0, 6-5, and 4-0 over the weekend. Shriver started Saturday’s game for Alma and allowed a shutout by Sherlow, while Hagerman pitched the final game for the Republics, limiting the Transports to six hits as the series ended with a Republics victory.

Transports overpower Hagerman in shutout series clincher

A boxing exhibition at Republic baseball park on Tuesday September 14 includes a ten round main bout between Jimmie Brady of Detroit and Billie Thomas of Chicago. Seven year old Cleo Ivan Mattern of Forest Hill died when a clay bank toppled into a gravel pit where he and his brother played. Workers freed him but he had died.
