Alma Republicans Name Winners in Tuesday Primary

Mott of Flint led the Republican governor nomination race in Alma with Campbell second and Growsteck third. Ward results show Fordney dominant district wide with Reed and Townsend trailing, while other races such as Lieutenant Governor and Prosecuting Attorney also favored Republicans. Balloting in Grant areas noted. full counts from several counties indicate Fordney carried the eighth district by a wide margin.

Quietly Married at Munising Miss Christofferson and Mr Falor

Local friends learned last week that Miss Marie Christofferson and William Falor wed quietly in Munising on Wednesday August 25, 1920, performed by Rev Joseph Kennedy. The bride, employed at the Republic Motor Truck plant, and the groom, with G Falor & Son, will reside in Alma.

Pastor Resigns From Local Church Before Move

Reverend D. Porton resigns as pastor of the First Church of Christ after serving less than a year. He plans to leave October 1 for Clovis New Mexico to take a new pastorate. He helped the church finance its East Superior street edifice and will be missed by Alma residents.

Slate Wins Delegates Run on Slips for Convention

Delegates to the Republican county convention were elected across city wards. Slips carried candidates in most wards, though several blanks remained. Final Games And Races Highlight Weekend Schedule

Final three games of the five game series pit the Republic Trucks against the Transport Tracks at Alma and Transport Town with both sides eager for two wins. Mt Pleasant strengthens via Nevitt as Abott and Zem Mick depart, while Chief eyes new pitchers. Saturday and Sunday games are on Republic field in Alma with Monday in Transport Town at 2 PM. Labor Day features Saginaw fairgrounds races starting at 2 PM with eight events and $2500 in prizes. Ralph DePalma may challenge his track record as drivers from several states compete. About eighty Alma Democrats, led by Governor Cox of Ohio, travel to Lansing for a major party gathering, with arrangements to meet the new Democratic leader and focus on campaign momentum.

Michigan Red Cross Christmas Seal Sale Plans

The annual Christmas Seal Sale of the Michigan Anti Tuberculosis Association runs December 1 to 11 with 30,000,000 Seals ordered. Secretary Elizabeth L. Parker says the ten day drive will cover every county and city to attack Michigan TB with a per capita seal rate. Miss Ruby B. Carlton of Dimondale returns as Seal Sale director, with full preparations underway before December.

New Motor Service Company 10 Opens In Alma

The Elliott Motor Service company leases the Ford Garage on East Superior from Clinton Nelson and will open a co operative service station there once Johnson and Thompson move their Ford agency to new quarters at West Superior and Park Avenue, expected mid October. The plan mirrors successful co operative garages in other cities and aims to save patrons money while offering expert mechanics and high quality work.

Alma Candidate Wins G.O.P. Nomination In County Primary

Alma voters backed James G. Kress city attorney for probate judge, achieving a strong statewide lead in the county race. Potts carried St. Louis and Ithaca areas, but Kress built a decisive edge with Alma precincts and surrounding townships, leaving Potts trailing as results came in.

Magnolena Sandell Dies in Seville Township at 77

Mrs Magdelena Sandell longtime Gratiot County resident died Monday at her Seville Township home near Elwell at age 77. Born December 22 1842 in Alsace Lorraine she emigrated to the United States in 1848 with parents. Survived by son George J Alma daughters Anna Charlen Carla and sister Mrs Dors Benzell. Funeral held at home in Seville Township Wednesday. Jacob Sandell her husband died in January. Neighbors note their pioneer status in Seville.

Kress Wins Probate Court Nomination

Two day meeting of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is led by Elders Mathew Umphrey and WD Ellis with missionaries from central western and eastern districts. Activities include lectures at 7 10, social service at 8 30, preaching at 10, women's auxiliary at 11, dinner at noon, and services at 4 and 7.
