Elmer Sprague plans a permanent cement block stable on the corner of Springerion and Park Streets, next to Champhrey's blacksmith shop. The 71 by 8 foot one story building will cost about $2,000 with Fatty & Son as contractor, due for completion around October 1.
Alma College prepares for examinations on September 12 as new renovations advance. Chapel day features Rev. Charles Ernest Scott, class of 1898, Albion pastor, who will speak on The Choice of a Vocation. The campus, Davis Field, Wright and Pioneer Halls receive improvements, while memorial services honor Prof. J. W. Ewing and celebrate donor gifts aiding typhoid relief for students.
Governor Warner spoke at the Alma meeting of the Michigan Dairymen’s Association, praising the new dairy law and local progress. The Central Michigan Produce Co. showcased modern facilities, expanded butter production, and high market prices, with observers noting strong attendance despite threatening weather.
Temperance supporters in Alma plan Sunday events across city churches. Meetings led by T Legear of Rain, Rev J J Albion, Rev Geo Mn Morrow of Detroit will be held in morning services with an evening mass at the Press church. Speakers include Geo W Morrow and others.
At Alma Chapter No. 44 EB 8 the officers for the coming term were elected including Worthy Matron Mrs Francis Howe Worthy Patron Mr M Pollasky Associate Matron Mrs Eva Gill Secretary Mrs Minnie Smith Treasurer Hannah Hall Conductress Mae Ellison Associate Conductress Mrs Nellie Woodward The officers will be installed Friday evening September with initiations. members urged to be present.
Contractors Joe Ray and Paul Murray progress on the Pollasky sewer project. More than thirty-two carloads of tile supplied, with two miles of duct and four to eight inch pipe. Start faced quicksand near Hulbert and Pine streets, but the line should be completed by November.
