Professor Joseph W. Ewing died at 4 o clock Monday morning in this city at seventy one from typhoid fever and kidney complications. He served as senior year print pal for Monroe high schools and graduated with honors from college. He and Catherine M. Gregg married before finishing college and later moved to Perrysburg Ohio where he was superintendent of schools for three years, then to Saginaw schools.

Mire Mary Ehy widow of General Ralph Ely dies at her home on State street Monday after a seven week illness. In her eighty third year she lived in Alma fifty one years except four in Lanning. Born in Waterloo New York February 1 1849 educated near Chilicothe Ohio. She married Rat Ely and moved through Chariton county then settled in Alma as the town’s first resident. Mother of six children including T A Ely and Mrs Ward. Funeral Thursday at 10 at home conducted by Rev Ramsey. remains laid beside husband in Riverside Cemetery. Out of town attendees included Miss Coats, Miss Florence Coats, and Mrs Geo Royce.

A car load of McVicker engines was sent to Baltimore Philadelphia Omaha Bradley Illinois and Manitowoc Wisconsin. A new automatic screw machine with six continuous operations accelerates duplicate part production. A new 80 horsepower gas engine under construction will power part of the plant. Building and Loan payments due Tuesday September fifth. Monday is a holiday.
