His remains returned to El Hall for a Monday wake and Wednesday funeral with service at the house then at the church. Smiths Named Superintendents of Michigan Odd Fellows Home
Mr and Mrs Eugene Smith of W Superior street are appointed superintendent and matron of the Michigan Oddfellows Home in Jackson with duties starting December 1. The appointment was made at the state lodges meeting in Kalamazoo on Alma lodge's recommendation. Smith previously worked for a monument company and moved to Alma with his family from North Star six months ago.

Soldiers Monument for Alma Proposed at Riverside Cemetery
The W. R. club raised twenty six dollars and seventy five cents from a chicken pie supper last Saturday. Proceeds support a soldiers monument to honor Alma veterans at Riverside cemetery. The group has one hundred dollars on hand plus another hundred pledged by Morgan Post G A R and more funds expected to reach unveiling on Decoration Day.

State Street sewer cave-in injures worker in Wright Avenue
John Smith of Wright avenue broke an ankle last Friday when a cave-in at the State street sewer buried him under clay chunks. Dr Thornburgh set his bones and he will likely receive about fifty percent of wages during incapacity. The city’s Travelers Insurance policy under the Workingmen's Compensation law covers the liability, with the State Industrial board to adjust the claim and determine the insurance payout. J C Stinchcomb is the local policy agent.

Damages awarded in Ann Arbor railway case
The administrator of T. A. Spalsburg won $1600 for Ray Spalsbury's fatal March 9, 1912, injury at McBain while employed as rear brakeman on an Ann Arbor freight. The interstate statute limited damages to the actual amount a dependent would receive, here $1500, due to a signal confusion between the engineer and first brakeman. Lawyers were Chas H. Goggin and John T. Matthews for the plaintiff, Coustaye Oblinger of Toledo, and Kreas & Dunham for the railroad.

First State Bank Installs Victor Sphere Safe

The manganese steel safe by itself weighs three tons and sits outside the vault on a silver chest of equal capacity. Wm Pres ton Stickrod died after a paralytic stroke at his home south of Alma. Funeral was held Friday at the home by Rev. Wm H. Mason with burial in Riverside cemetery.
