A reorganized real estate firm replaces Burt Shar ar Moore Land Co with Burt Sharrar and Watson Land Co. Chas Watson moves from Breckenridge to join, with Jose G Nicolet added. Officers include Thomas A Hurt president, Geo Sharrar vice president, Chas E Watson secretary treasurer, and Jers G Nicolett field manager.
The death of Frank R. Hurst of Detroit on Wednesday morning shocks Alma College circles. Suffering from anemia, his condition had become critical in the last two weeks. He is survived by a wife and four children, the youngest two months old. Funeral arrangements are set with interment in Riverside Cemetery Friday. His body will arrive in Alma at noon and Rev Bruske of Holland, former Alma College president, will conduct services at the Presbyterian Church at 2:30 p.m. An life sketch will appear next week.
Alma College fell to Western State Normal College in Kalmazoo last Friday with a 79 to 0 score. The result does not reflect the teams’ strength, as Western State’s offense impressed. Ed Johnson suffered a forehead injury and had to leave the game.
The Young Men's Christian Association of Michigan will hold its state convention at Michigan Agricultural College on December 1 and 2. Prominent speakers include Dad Elliot and Fletcher Brockman, with J. R. Motts Associate and North America’s top college men as likely attendees. Governor may attend if possible. Melvin Wender elected Convention Committee Treasurer. A strong Alma delegation is expected to attend.
Miss Frances Ingram leads the first Lyceum Course program, praised as a standout contralto with a stellar history in Chicago and Montreal opera. Other speakers include Chinese statesman Ne Poon Chow, James A. Burns of Oneida Institute, and lecturer Russell H. Conwell, with the Schunma Quintet providing music. Also noted is the death of Bunlive Wilcox Keller at her daughter’s home near Alma after a long illness. funeral and burial details follow.
Ida M Follick and Roy S Davenport married Saturday evening at the home of Rev A E North. Ceremony witnessed by relatives and friends. Bridesmaid Dorothea Swope wore white. best man Lyle Follick. After 26 October they will host guests. Also reports on Choral Union, Messiah plans, and Forty-Sixth wedding anniversaries of Mr and Mrs Ward and Mr and Mrs Honey Brew baker. Senior class masquerade at Alma High School ends with awards and refreshments.
Alma College Faculty Club held its first meeting of the year at Rev. W H Mason's home. President Grown of Central Michigan Normal College spoke on Scandinavian art science and literature and touched on Thorvaldson Linnaeus and related topics. The evening included performances by the Presbyterian Male Quartet and remarks on faculty engagement and future lectures.
Alma and Albion meet on Devise Field Saturday at 10 for a key MIAA clash. Albion boasts a 54 0 win over Adrian and enters as a slight favorite, while Alma aims to bring a stronger lineup and avenge recent struggles.
