The government extends the deadline to November 1 for prepaid subscriptions. A blue cross marks expiring papers. Those who have not paid will be dropped and no paper will be sent after November 7. The department will enforce the rule and a government report is due November 2.
Gratiot County completes a two day push that drives the Seventh Federal Reserve district fourth liberty loan effort past the quota with Alma leading the county. Alma's subscriptions exceed its $126,024 goal, with bank totals reaching about $409,000 and most likely three times the quota within the city. Other top performers include Ithaca St Louis and parts of Wheelers and Elim townships with Ashley and Bannister near the target.
A meeting in Ithaca last Wednesday urged all business places in Ithaca St Louis Alma Breckenridge and Ashley to help in the loan on Friday. Most towns observed the request with stores closing all day except Thuck.
The Gratiot County Draft Hour called sixty seven men for physical examination on Monday October 8 at the draft officers in Alma. The city already exceeded its goal, and the unofficial list shows many individuals increasing their commitments. The committee thanks contributors and notes some may be overlooked due to haste. A night school opens with classes in English, shorthand, and more, while the Gilon Tire Shop moves to a larger site on Superior Street to expand services.
Wilbur Price resigns after seven years at the Alot post office effective Saturday. He plans to join Republic Motor Truck Service in Yon Mowlay department. Price started seven years ago at the foot of the ladder and rose to a senior role. Ravsell Cummings also resigns from the post office, effective yesterday, with future plans undisclosed.
