Two Views of the School Room at Fifty-seventh Session

The Fifty-seventh Session met in the Public School Building over Friday and Saturday with Newton Burns of Bethany presenting contrasting views of the school room, parent demands versus teacher realities amid limited country-school equipment. A series of talks followed on theater in education, literature in country schools, arithmetic, and history, highlighting classroom challenges, the role of books, and a committee report on district school questions.

Country School Ventilation and Special Day Exercises Discussed

In the afternoon session A P Cook of Aihaca spoke on ventilation for country schools noting each pupil needs 280 cubic inches of fresh air per minute and ten cubic feet per child, plus hygiene and cleanliness. Grace Hunt urged focused special day programs rather than miscellaneous exhibitions and highlighted Longfellow and Grant days. The association adjourned to visit the college museum. enrollment topped 150 and next session is planned for Breckenridge in May. A Kipp will deliver milk each day.

Sudden Death of P. E. Studebaker at Alma

P E Studebaker second vice president of the South Bend buggy firm died after six months illness. He arrived in Alma with his brother J M Studebaker last week and grew worse Friday night amid heart and stomach trouble. He was 86 born April 1 1836 in Ashland County Ohio. He helped build the family business and once funded a monument for Abraham Lincoln's mother. Survived by wife and three adult children.

Bazaar Stock and Store Improvements At Alma Millers

J Miner expands general merchandise stock this week with chinaware jardineers and varied toys including dolls and steamers. Miller plans to double rear storage, install steam heat and electric lights, with tinware and granite ware lines added. Arcada Township Sunday School Convention set at Alma Presbyterian Church on Oct 7 1807 with programs for teachers and parents, evening services and reports.

Wm Owen Company staged Shakespeare and Richelieu

The Wm Owen Company presented Romeo and Juliet Friday and Richelieu Saturday with fine acting by Owen McConnell Armory and Maude Baker. Despite a small stage, scenery and costumes impressed under Chas Stoddard. A high class entertainment drew a fair audience. applause should honor acting.
