Sugar Factory to Start Beet Harvest in Alma
Alan Plant of Michigan Sugar Company began contracted beet harvesting this week. On Monday October 17 the company’s receiving stations will open to accept beets, weather dictating the start time. Alma plant manager Mr. Allen predicts a run of 80 000 beets and a season lasting about 70 days depending on supplies and conditions.

More than sixty Grand Rapids wholesalers and the Furniture City band arrived in Alma from Mt. Pleasant for a four day trade extension. They toured retail stores, viewed automobiles provided by the Alma Chamber of Commerce, visited St. Louis on a side trip, and then returned to Alma before boarding a three coach train to Ithaca. The band performed for locals in the business district and at the Michigan Masonic Home, before some headed to a candy window demonstration by DeLuxe Candy Co. advertisement and the sale of butternut bread.

Francis King Wins Historic Horticultural Honor
Mrs. Francis King of this city, renowned horticulturist and author, received the George I. White medal for eminent service to horticulture.
