Thomas Merrill dies at 97 a steadfast Alma College donor
Thomas Merrill of Saginaw died Thursday at 97. A pioneer lumberman and longtime trustee of Alma College, he contributed 6000 to found the college, 25000 for the Merrill Professorship, and funded three scholarships including the Merrill scholarship. Funeral services were held at the Merrill home with local church leaders present.

News comes of the death of R B Miller of Elwell announced as a sudden passing. Funeral services are planned for Sunday at the family home with Alma lodge 244 FL and A M to conduct the rites. Obituary to follow next week.

Dr R J Davison of Elwell was discovered dead in his office by Dr E T Lamb on Wednesday. An inquest found death from medicine administered by himself. Davison practiced at Forest Hill and Shelby before relocating to Elwell, returning recently after a long career. The body was taken to Bellwood Ontario for burial.

Mrs Edwin Griffith Dies After Long Illness at Home
Mrs. Edwin R. Griffith, longtime resident of the city, died after a lingering illness at the Griffith residence on State Street last Saturday. Born July 1845 in Murdy Geneses County Michigan, she moved to Tyrisville Pennsylvania before her 1870 marriage. She and her husband Calvin Griffith settled in the city about 35 years ago and ran a meat market. Surviving are her husband, Kalwin R. Griffith, daughters Mrs. Ly Trewt Wiker and Miss Mabel Griffith, a sister Mrs. M. J. Fensy of Cadillac, and brothers George Winget of Wikwen and Reuben Winget of Sayittaw. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the hot conducted by Rev. J. Frank Jackson. Burial at Riverside Cemetery.
